Barrel Chaser Saddle by Tex Tan 14" Seat

Removing Mold and Maintaining Your Tack – Part One

From time to time, we all experience ‘it” and by “it” I mean mold. This video, “Removing Mold and Maintaining Your Tack – Part One,” details how to remove mold on tack and preserve your investment so that you can maximize safety for horse and rider.

As a saddle maker for the past 30+ years, I’ve seen more than my share of mold on fenders, straps, seats and billets. Not only is mold a frustrating and unsightly issue, it can also create safety issues for both horse and rider. And let’s not forget the fact that mold can deteriorate the financial investment you have in your tack.

Over time, mold can cause leather components to disintegrate, crack, split and worse. With a little elbow grease, you can protect your financial investment and keep you and your horse safe.

I’ve created two videos which show me removing mold and cleaning and conditioning this particular customer’s saddle. If you follow these guidelines, you will find that mold dissipates quickly and easily and you will have your saddle looking good and working safely for years to come.

I’ve also created a saddle cleaning kit that contains everything you need for removing mold on tack, and cleaning and conditioning your saddle, leather halter, bridle/headstall, etc. These kits contain the products and instructions you need to preserve your investment and improve safety for both you and your horse.
