Reining Basics With Mike Davis

Mike Davis is one of the most versatile, talented and accomplished Reining Horse Trainers in the world and he was gracious enough to share his time, expertise, and knowledge with us several weeks ago.

Reining is the fastest growing equine sport in the industry and for those of you not familiar with it, Mike provides relevant and basic information so you can watch and be amazed by the athleticism of reining horses and their riders.

An excerpt from the V2 Reining site reads as follows:

“Following high school, Mike Davis spent fifteen years working with and training horses in Texas and Italy before returning to his grass roots in Iowa. Greatly influenced by Craig Johnson, Scott McCutcheon, the Christian mentoring of Doug Milholland, and others with whom he has worked, Mike encourages his clients of all abilities to tap into deeper levels of horsemanship. He challenges the rider to feel and fix the hip kicked out or the shoulder dropped in or a lean on the neck rein, ultimately for the rider to do the learning on the horse.

Mike has guided his non-pros into the North Central Reining Horse Association year-end saddle circuit championships and reserve championships, and the NRHA Futurity finals. Like the people who have helped him along the way, Mike mentors interns from a local college, as well as assists clients in plotting the course needed to reach their goals. He knows that if his clients succeed in accomplishing their goals, then he will have the support and encouragement to accomplish his.

Mike has a deep commitment of giving back to others. Through his association with good friend Shawn Flarida the last several years, Mike continues his passion for the sport of reining and dedication to its growth.”
